They Call it Wonderful

We had purchased one a few years ago on a whim and were impressed by its durability and comfort quality when we would take it both for outdoor use and for indoor use. It inflates quickly and quietly, and deflates just as well. Plus it's easy to tote around and store. Unfortunately, it was so loved that the last person to borrow it has yet to even mention its return. Having found this online at Amazon I was thrilled to be able to replace such a worthwhile air mattress and only hope it lives up to the standers set by its predecessor. Thank you Amazon!!
Total disappointment

This product never worked. I bought it because I needed it immediately due to shortage of beds and impending visitors. Visitors slept on concrete slab floor because the mattress deflated at once. I am returning this product.
Inflatable Bed

I have now spent two years looking for a good, comfortable mattress at a sane price. No luck. In the meantime, I have bought no less than three of these Wenzel air mattresses. The first two were twin sized but I could no longer find these at Amazon so I was forced to go with the (too large) full size mattress.
My first Wenzel mattress proved amazingly comfortable, more so than most spring mattresses (the trick here is to under-inflate; picture a water-bed without the undulations).
Durability is another matter. My first mattress lasted about eight months. Astonishing! Still, it did fail and I was forced to buy another. The second mattress failed much sooner, about three months. Curious about why they fail as they do (first a small pop sound while climbing off, and then a section of the mattresses quilted pattern bulges up with constant and ever worsening leakage); I took my second mattress apart. The mattress is truly just an inflated balloon, no stuffing of any kind. The quilted pattern is caused by round plastic rings which are glued in place top and bottom. I had imagined these as cylindrical stuctures but in fact, they are belt-shaped. The belts are thin white plastic and about four inches wide. They're circular in shape (like a pully belt, and about seven inches in diameter). The belts are oriented along the long axis of the bed. For this reason, they are much more giving in the long axis than they are for sideways loads. It is the tearing of these belts which causes the bulging and signals imminent failure. Baffling is the lack of any apparent puncture or leakage point. A small patch kit is provided. It's easily overlooked because it comes on a paper and looks like a warranty card. But, since the leaks are invisible, the patch kit is worthless.
While cutting open my mattress I was horrified at just how easily they cut! Somehow, especially after months of service, I had the come to the notion that they are tough like the rubberized fabric of a lifeboat, but no, they cut exactly as easily (and of the same material), as a child's inflatable pool toy. Even an overlooked pine needle from last years Christmas tree will destroy one of these. My advice? Sweep and vacuum thouroughly before setting out one of these mattresses. This is probably good advice for inflated items generally.
I conclude that any inflated mattress will fail in time and yet, as a temporary solution, they can be amazingly comforable and lasting. I will recommend this product provided you clean the floor of any puncture sources and remember to climb off the bed vertically like doing a push-up between the quilted depressions to avoid straining the internal support belts with long lateral movements. This is the primary cause of failure in this product. |

No muss no fuss and no electricity required. I can get over a year of good night sleep from one of these. Only problem is it is not built for shall we say rough use. But I highly recommend this mattress for one and sometimes two if care is taken.

The air mattress is really comfortable. I have had to use it for several nights straight and don't have any problems with it. I just wish I could have gotten one that was double the thickness.
